Dear Mission Partner,

The Lord has been impressing on my spirit to share these few thoughts with you, in the hope that you may find comfort and strength in them. They have ministered to me in these weeks since July 1 when my forty day partial fast began, and is finishing Aug.10.

Devotional

“And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and nights unto Horeb the mount of God” (1 Kin. 18:8).

Elijah had eleven major miracles during his service to God. His sixth miracle, that of calling rain from heaven after three years of drought, then killing eight hundred and fifty false prophets, he panicked when he ran in fear from the woman, Jezebel who threatened to kill him.

Sitting dejected under a juniper tree he fell into an exhausted sleep. The angel of the LORD prepared a coal fire, cooked a cake, and provided water. The angel touched him and said “arise and eat”. He ate and slept again. Again the angel touched him and said, “Arise and eat: for the journey is too great for you”. He ate his second ‘miracle’ meal and went in the strength of that meal forty days and nights.

The God of Elijah is your God and mine. He is a God of miracles. In Elijah’s case, God worked the supernatural. Although he could have provided a cooked hot cake without coals, He chooses to use and ignite the coals for cooking in a natural way. He provided adequate water in the wilderness to quench Elijah’s thirst. On the strength of those heavenly cakes and water, Elijah traveled forty days and nights; he went in the divine energy of God.

We also can go in the strength of God with whatever challenging circumstance we face. As His children and His servants we may experience trauma or great difficulty, but our God is always adequate to strengthen our human frailties when we walk in obedience to, and trust His word.

In Elijah’s depression and fear, even while running from a perceived enemy, his God was ever present, assuring him of, comfort and provision for his onward journey.

His word which is eternally settled in heaven, (Psa.119:89), assures us: “I will never leave you or forsake you”. (Heb.13:5)  “… I will guide you with my eye”. (Psa.32:8). “For I the LORD your God will hold your right hand, saying unto you, fear not; I will help you”. (Isa.41:13).

These promises are God’s commitment to us when we walk in obedience and they are His “I will’s” that we can trust and build our faith and future upon.

He is a God who never changes; never loses His power, and never neglects us. He was with Elijah when he slept in exhaustion and fear, so He is here for you and me with His assurance of comfort and provision for our onward journey.
